Tamil Union Cricket & Athletic Club is one of the oldest Cricket clubs in Sri Lanka founded on 2nd of December 1899.

The club’s long-standing and rich history has always been closely associated with the remarkable journey of Sri Lanka Cricket.

Tamil Union Cricket
and Athletic Club History

The club has played a significant role in the development and growth of Sri Lanka Cricket, the beginning of the year 1960, the club expanded as one of the key clubs that nurture young talented individuals from different backgrounds into international-level players. Perhaps, the most memorable international cricketer the club has produced is the leading wicket-taker in international cricket history, Muttiah Muralitharan who recorded 800 test wickets in 133 matches.

Mahadevan Sathasivam who captained the Tamil Union Cricket club when it was first accorded first-class cricket status and lead All-Ceylon in the 1940s was another remarkable product of the club. The club has produced and developed thousands of cricketers over the years, there were a few players who got selected to represent Sri Lanka in the National team including Tilakaratne Dilshan, Upul Chandana, Rangana Herath and Chanaka Welagedara.
